Asterisk -r unable to connect

Posted by fuse3 on Tue, 05/01/2012

I have a fresh server setup, non-ISO load.

CentOS 6.2 x64
Asterisk 1.8.11-cert1

Did a fresh load, yum update, dahdi install, asterisk install.

Started up dahdi and asterisk and then type asterisk -r to connect and i get the wonderful:

Unable to connect to remote asterisk

I checked and the file /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.ctl does not exist.

But if i type at the server cli "asterisk" the file then appears under /var/run/asterisk and i can then issue the command asterisk -r to connect and everything seems just fine.

Any ideas?

if you execute asterisk -r as a non-root user you will get that reply. make sure you have the proper permissions to read /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.ctl

I started fresh again on the box with CentOS 6.2 x64 and have the same issue.
I wiped it again and went with CentOS 5.8 x64 and everything is perfect.

Guess i will be staying away from 6.2 for now.
