check voicemail

Posted by Jasril on Wed, 08/25/2010

i set up a group of extensions all with the same voicemail box (101@default-tenant)
and was wondering if there was a way to create a feature/script where on any of the extensions they can dial the feature code and (without inputting any kind of extension number) arrive at the input password prompt for the group mailbox...
i'm sure this is a relatively basic feature but i'm a bit (understatement) of a beginner...

thanks for the help~

in the extension creation page under voicemail retrival extensiom slect the extension the voicemail is, then whenever anyone dials his extension he got the massages
or you could setup a feature code like _*98. go to check voicmail and when any one will dial *98101 (asumming 101 is the voice mail) will be able to litsen to messages

ya i tried these, and they do work as you say, but what i am looking for is a feature i can use where say:

ext 101-102 share mbx 101@default-tenant
and
ext 103-104 share mbx 103@default-tenant

and 101/102 can dial say *97 to access their mailbox
and 103/104 can dial the same thing to access theirs...

so the feature would somehow need to reference the "mailbox=" portion of the extension from the sip.conf file to know what mailbox it should go to... i ended up just hard coding the mailbox numbers into 2 different feature codes, this was for an older couple so i wanted it to be as simple as possible for them.

i think i was kind of hoping for a little too much based on my days as a digital phone system programmer heh...

thanks for the feed back though =)

then use the voicemail retrival and have everyony dial his extension number and it will go to the extension set at voicemail retrival
