Connecting Thirdlane to proprietary PBX

Posted by cbbs70a on Wed, 05/12/2010

I have a customer who is using an Avaya PBX who wants to migrate to a Thirdlane solution. He wants to connect the two, and migrate over time (about 150 users). Avaya wants $8500 for SIP software so thats out. Its possible in theory to connect the two using H.323 and I've seen an article explaining how to do it. This may sound really stupid but is it possible to use a Digium card and connect the two using FXO ports and crossover cables?
Thanks

not with FXO, there's not enough signalling.

PRI would at least give you destination numbers between the two.

your biggest obstacle is going to be extra information between the two.. that sort of thing wont work. IE you can call the other pbx and it can call you.. but things like presence, MWI (should they think that VM on one box can somehow alert a phone on another box), etc. will not work between the servers.

for a very short time polycom is doing a trade-in program for old handsets.. they can save as much as $75 off each handset by certifying they destroyed their old handsets.
