Door Bell Buzzer

is there a way to set up a doorbell and buzzer with MTE, if yes what would be the best way to set it up

the only device i am even familiar with that can be used to open doors is the xorcom astribank and that is a usb zaptel device. It would be limited to an STE not an MTE installation.

as for a doorbell and speakerphone there is

the dialplan required to do remote door phones requires a custom context, not really conducive to MTE. This is one of those clear-cut demarcations where the customer needs their own STE installation and just buys sip lines from you.

Not exactly hat you are looking for, but I have used Cyberdata's paging amplifier from ABP Tech. Great device. Very straight forward setup.

your ITS device says the person answering the call enters a code to activate the door lock, is that a seperate call or is it just dtmf based during a call? PS I like that cyberdata voip intercom. It looks exactly like the viking one that connects to an FXO port.

i have a question regarding the voip paging amplifier, does this replace the need for an ATA + Bogen TAM-B module as a complete unit which then feeds into the Bogen amplifier driving an array of speakers? How does the price of this unit compare to the ATA + Bogen TAM-B solution?

I'm not familiar with the Bogen TAM-B, but from a quick google search it looks like it may be cheaper than the cyberdata. I believe the Cyberdata sip amplifier was around $350 with a PoE injector (required if you're not using a PoE switch).

I was trying to keep things as simple as possible and wanted to do SIP all the way to the speaker. I believe the speaker we plugged in to is amplified. We used an existing speaker, am I have no idea what the specs were on it.

But, it's a good solution.

I can get a linksys SPA2102 for $70 and and the TAM-B for $145, it gets its power from line voltage. However you still need a bogen amplifier to drive all the speakers. In almost every case, the bogen amplifier is already installed and connected to their old pbx. I just need something to convert it into the 600-ohm input the amplifier is looking for. I dont see the paging amplifier as being much use without an external amplifier. Driving 1 or 2 speakers isnt much use to me since just about every site survey that had paging was in a factory or warehouse with dozens of speakers.

If the cyberdata voip amplifier could be had for $250 I'd probably consider a one device solution over a 2-device one.

Wondering what the latest on this is. If i understand eeman's last post correctly this is going from:
Thirdlane --- SIP --- ATA--- POTS---TAMB--Analog Audio--Paging Amplifier---Speakers

And this solution allows the customer to retain their Amplifier and Speakers.

There is the pure sip method:
Thirdlane --- SIP --- SIP Enabled Amplifier --- Speakers

Two examples of these SIP Enabled Amplifiers are:

Cyberdata VoIP Loudspeaker Amplifier ~$350 (which allows you to connect 2 standard 8ohm loudspeakers ~$50)
VALCOM VIP-130L ~$400 (which is a amplifier plus loudspeaker bundle)

Does anyone have experience with any of these solutions or perhaps something different?

i used Cyberdata VoIP before and this highest the volume would go is minimal (not good for a loud environment) i have just ordered snom pa1 to use with old fashioned amplifier and horns, will let you know in a few weeks how it goes

if they already have an amplifier and horns the ATA+TAMB module is probably the cheapest solution you'll find.

Snom pa1 runs for around 120-140 and it is a sip device it looks very cool you could plug in a rj11, headphone jack or amplifier cables

So ATA+TAMB price wise same or more

Thank you, guys. One customer I am working with has a bogen amplifier(TU-35A) that seems to include the functionality of the TAM-B, namely a telephone line interface. So for this particular application I will simply introduce an FXS ATA.

according to the docs thats a 4W amplifier, not unamplified 600ohm signal. If the customer already has amplifier and horns It doesnt make sense to install the baby amplifier. Looks like theres a line-out jack but its RCA so you'd have to build an adapter.

no, FXS is NOT the same thing as 600ohm .. you have to send the FXS to a TAMB module BEFORE going into the TEL input of a bogen amplifier. However the TAMB does nice things like voice activity detection to teardown the amplifier when you hangup and you can pipe background music into the TAMB when you arent announcing.
