Starting Up

Posted by jimember on Thu, 08/04/2011

So I have an ISP and I want to start providing VoIP.

I will be getting SIP trunks from Bandwidth.com

I have a server ready to go but no platform.

I am leaning toward the MTE.

My question is, How should I connect to a client?

For instance, a business who wants my "services" has 6 phone lines from Verizon.

They want to keep their existing phone system, Avaya.

Do I order them a local internet provider, say Cablevision with static IPs. Assign one of the IPs to an ATA device such as an TA906 or SPA8000 and configure it with SIP extensions from the PBX and let all the routing be done over the internet?

Or do I set up VPNs?

Or set up local loops back to the CO?

How does this work?

Thanks in advanced.

I'm not sure you're going to get those specific sort of answers on this forum. Its not that they are hard questions, but bear in mind that most MTE users are in direct competition with you. What your asking for is a cookbook that anyone can follow that cuts into someone elses business. Thats a big pill to swallow. Often other users will post a great deal of help, but they've already accepted that the user is an established business and subconsciously they believe its not impacting their business. In this request, however, its a tougher sell. They know, without a doubt, they're handing over a ITSP-in-a-Box manual.
As a private consultant I don't have as much reservation. However, I'm sure you can understand why, on a free forum, you may not get what you're seeking. Then again, stranger things have happened.
