Is there any need for more that 1 ip address for a MTE installation
i am not sure if it would be helpfull or not
my thought was it might make it easier moving groups of subscribers to other machines
thoughts?

it isnt going to work the way you think it will if you try overloading an interface with alias'. The device will send traffic to some alias IP but the return traffic is going to come in from the native ip of the interface.. which can and will get rejected as random traffic.
