Music instead of ring

Posted by moshe on Tue, 02/03/2009

in MTE
some customers/tenants want the callers to hear to music instead of ring tone for some of there extensions, is there a easy solution to add such a change in other options when creating an extension ?

Are you saying that your customers want to be able to change their default ringtone to something custom?

Not custom

they want when a call goes to an extension (not all extensions) the caller should hear the regular music MOH instead of the regular ring tone, basically either the caller should be placed on hole till the phone is answered, or to be able to add a option like in a ring group 'r' or 'm' but we don’t want to use a ring group since the calls are being forwarded and in ring/hunt it only stays internal

Off the top of my head, and I have not set one up so it may not work like you need it to, you could probably do this using queues.

you DO realize that the ring-back music you hear when calling someone's Verizon Wireless phone is something entirely different. The ring-back music is a PRI signalling feature in which you can pass AUDIO while in the CALL PROCEEDING state for up to 2 minutes. Because the CONNECT signal is never passed back the call is never marked as answered and does not acrue billable time. This feature is often used to send error messages like numbers moving to new numbers, numbers not completed as dialed, too much congestion to place call etc.

in your case, you are likely to incur a toll for the caller (metered rate or minute deduction from cell phones) and/or metered toll to a metered toll-free number due to answering the call channel to pass audio. Additionally, if you do find a SIP method of proceeding an answered call with audio, if the far end system uses -r in their Dial, they wont hear it.

To pass audio instead of ringing using the Dial command:

m([class]) -

Provide hold music to the calling party until a requested

channel answers. A specific MusicOnHold class can be

specified.
