I have a customer which at 2 out 8 of his jacks he only have 3-pair wiring which is regular PSTN wire, to rewire is not efficient, and he want 2 phones, which should work as a part of his entire system, the first thing that come to mind is to use ATA, and use any phone, the problem is with the limitation of the basic features like hold(with MOH), transfer, conference, park a call, and page, only by using flash and some feature codes, which is difficult for his employees, is there a phone which might have all button features and work with a ATA as a part of the pbx, or is there another solution for such a problem,
Any advice
how about using Polycom
how about using Polycom SpectraLink 8020 which should work directly with a wireless router what are the advantage /disadvantage of this vs Polycom Spectralink wireless server 300 with Polycom Spectralink 5040 handset other then pricing
or is there a more cost affective solution
the talk times are not very
the talk times are not very good on portable wifi phones. Most come in around 3hrs of talk time. Another drawback is that your wireless router is on your regular lan network (and should be) versus your voice VLAN network. The last concern is basic wireless issues. The wifi phone is using a 2.4Ghz channel which can be rather saturated with other wifi devices, microwave ovens, bluetooth, and cordless phones; all sharing the same frequency spectrum. The nice thing about DECT is that its been reserved by the FCC for exclusive cordless phone use. No more sharing frequencies with a myriad of other devices which should translate into better reception and cleaner signal.
intel had a brief summary of
intel had a brief summary of some of the problems you can run into over wifi:
Symptom(s):
When a 2.4 GHz cordless telephone is powered on or in use near a wireless LAN access point, network adapter, or another wireless device, the following issues may occur:
.
* Connection disconnects
* Pauses or disruptions in data transmissions
* Erratic connection behaviors
.
Cause:
2.4 GHz cordless telephones operate at the same frequencies as 2.4 GHz 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n wireless LAN access points, network adapters, and other devices (Bluetooth*, baby monitors, garage door openers, some wireless toys, etc.).
while some of this can be 'manageable' to a laptop web surfer, I am not sure I'd trust business class voice to it. Residential users? Sure, they seem to be willing to suffer through more problems than business class users do.

i was on the phone with polycom tech support as they are saying that no special character are allowed as a user name, basically kirk is not possible with MTE only if there is a way to change the sip user format
Advice?
i think you reached someone
i think you reached someone at their phone bank who is not very technical. I found this release notes of more recent firmware that suggests they have already added support for special characters.

any feature you want to use for an ATA is limited to a DTMF style set of features where one has to memorize a bunch of star codes.
Another option to look into is a DECT cordless phone with a SIP base station such as the
Polycom Spectralink 5040 handset and
Polycom Spectralink wireless server 300
