Record IVR message

Posted by mattdarnell on Fri, 04/24/2009

Is there a way to record an IVR message from the phone without having to use the web interface?

I would like to give admins a code to dial and let them record IVR greetings.

It would also be nice to be able to play it back and rerecord on the same call.

That's something that is very trivial to write, but if you go that route, how do you go about naming the file? How do you access the file? You lose alot of flexability if you give up the web interface don't you think?

make sure you use Authenticate. We used to use codes to record without it but inevitably some idiot would dial the code... realize they misdialed and hang up... turning the recording into a 5 second empty file. The users would call in accusing us of screwing up when they misdialed. Authenticate solved this.

I was thinking you would create the file in the GUI and you could name it '-' - or something similar.

That way you could give the customer a list of prompts and the associated number.

Good idea on authenticate.

A lot of my customers groan when they have to go into GUI to make a quick change. Not being able to hear it back and rerecord on the same call is a bummer too.

Would it be easier to keep everything the way it is but add the ability to hear it back and re-record to the script?

I am nit sure what would be easier to code, but being able to hear it back and re-record it would be a lot better.

that probably wouldn't be too difficult (the listen and re-record part). Getting the allison smith audio is probably going to be the hardest part. Will look to see what I can re-use out of the vm recording files.

I would think the prompts from when you record a voice mail greeting would work.

Do you think something else would be needed?

We always record prompts for new customers - either as specified or we make up something reasonable. It would be really nice if you could type in an external phone number (like your own did). As it is now I have to move the speaks from our own tenant to the new tenant. This means that *I* have to do something and someone else is waiting for me to do it. Add 10 points to the annoyance level if the new tenant lives on another server.

And yes - we miss the playback/re-record feature (as when you record greeting for voicemail).

olekaas - I have our tech's use a soft phone to do the recordings of initially created tenants (same goes for STE installations). It gets around the moving files around situation. Could save you annoyance in the meantime.

Yeah.. I could probably train them to do that.. but they are using a Terminal and are not equipped with a usable audio device. Moving files, softphones, etc is just a work arounds for the obvious: Dialing the excellent Soundpoint 450 placed in front of them on the table.

I guess we could improve this - would love to hear more suggestions - perhaps a new thread in "Features Wanted"?
