Provisioning Speeddial and BLF through Polycom directory.xml

Posted by hbondy on Wed, 07/15/2009

I am successfully provisioning the above through the TL provisioning sw, BUT, every time I reprovision a phone, it clobbers any of the manual directory entries that a user has put in directly on their phone. Is there a way to ~merge~ the TL items with the existing items rather than just clobbering the file with every reprovision? What am I missing here?

Thanks,

I am indeed. How would this help? I have tried to change the input side of the provisioning file to read back the mac-directory.xml file but tl only seems to want to take its imput files from the provisioning/user-provisioning directory even though it will write out the file anywhere I direct it to so, even if it could work that way, I dont kow how to get tl to read the input file that it previously wrote (and the user amended) back in.

it doesnt. The provisioning tool is universal and other phones aren't advanced enough to have the 2-way provisioning that polycoms have. Therefore the provisioning tool is just reading out of devices.txt and using that plus the templates to do publishes. If your using FTP to upload the directory.xml files to the server I would just use 'vi' to edit them when you need to, otherwise the entire editing would have to occur on the phone interface. For the 650's with expansion modules, I would opt for the writing out templates and let them overwrite what the phone adds; since managing all those buttons can be a bit much from the phone. For the rest, there's never more than just a couple buttons capable of using the BLF, so why not just do those from the phones.
