but unfortunately they really want to be able to just dial a code to activate and deactivate.

because thats so much easier than pressing the do not disturb button on their phone?

officially 'do not disturb' is a function of the phone not the pbx. the phone sends back a 486 message that they are not there. Trying to do it with dialplan will result in a mere 50% success rate. any time you directly call the device like Dial(SIP/101) its going to ring, extension settings be damned.

Perfectly reasonable suggestion, however they have some cordless phone which the vendor has neglected to include such things, but are otherwise really good phones.
