New Thirdlane Dialer

Hi,
After discussion with Alex regarding the ability to branding the TL dialer, the conclusion is that the current version is built long time ago and every time that a customer need to change something (even the logo), it will requires a lot of work and cost too much money.

Alex is willing to develop a new TL dialer that will be customized easily (branding/localization/default domain).

Since it will be distributed for free, he will not be able to invest the development costs alone.

So, we want to see how much TL members will be share the cost and will pay few hundred dollars, to get a branded new TL dialer.

only if its done multi-platform so that linux and Mac workstations can also take advantage of the callto: url handlers and other features. Im not interested in perpetuating the windows-only monopoly on the back of open-source developers.

In my market its not important to support mac or linux, but I know that in usa there are millions mac users.
The callto features are important and a simple click to call html code generator for website can be a great advantage.

I think that as a proffesional community, we can plan the next TL dialer perfect and then let alex to check the costs.
Then we can see who is interested.

Unfortunately I don't see much activity here. Just curious - how many customers are using the Dialer?

Would there be more interest if it included other features like instant messaging with buddy list and status, etc?

This thread will not give us the right indication if the market need a new and better TL addon or not.
TL users comes to this forum when they want to learn something or have a problem they need to solve.
I bet that 95% of TL users would be very happy to have a smart addon, especially the MTE providers like me.

I want to share you all with our situation regarding dialer:
1. the israeli national telecom provider "BEZEQ" control 80% of the telecom+ADSL market in Israel.
2. Bezeq started to provide IP-Centrex service 3 years ago, They have a great success.
3. Their main thing that they claim they have is their AddOn, they show how easy the user can answer the call without lifting the handset and only pree the "Answer" button on the screen..
they show how easy it for the user to configure the DND/forwarding.... all in the addon
dial from outlook...bla bla bla

they did a great job on the AddOn, and this is what sell

the IP centrex they sell is stupid and simple and it has much less features then TL MTE, but they sell much more, only because they have the best AddOn.

its in hebrew, but you will see what they point to and how their marketing planers thinks.
they touch the user usability, and you know what? they right, this is what matters, the addon is what the user will use most of the time if its usefull.

there are many features could be in such a tool for exp:
virtual BLFs
Instant massaging
Speed dial directory
Click to answer (will open the HF/HS)
Send fax
DND
Call forward

if its usefull and well designed and user friendly it will boost our sells by far.

some of those features exist already in other applications (instant messaging for example) .. the click to answer is practically impossible in an environment that isn't limited to one specific model of phone as every vendor has different means to perform an auto-answer.

I get lots of questions like that, especially when it comes to showing the corporate directory on the phone as part of its built-in directory. No two phone manufacturers do this the same way. This makes it impossible. Ironically the replies I get is 'Just make it work for Polycom and tell everyone else to go fuck themselves, they should have bought polycom'. And I get similar input from SNOM as well. Proprietary systems have a few situations where its a lot easier to roll a feature to a phone due to lack of diversity, whereas we have to limit access to a web portal.

I will put money in this pot to get this working assuming we have a good direction with a time line for completion. I think this is a big thing that we are missing. I agree with the additional features like instant messaging , status, and Buddy watch. Can we try and get some traction on this?

Alex, can you calculate the cost for the new TL addon?
I want to try to collect sponsors.
We are behind the competitors without it.

Ophir, please call me to discuss this.

I would be interested to know which dialer features deemed to be important, which are not being used. Also - would you prefer the dialer remain small, lightweight and easy to use or would like it to have more features and possibly turn into (or become a part of) a larger application we would develop - like one of the operator panels?

Also:

1) Any interest in Mozilla Thunderbird integration? In addition to email TB has calendar, contact management and chat. It would be quite easy to build an add-on and integrate it with PBX Manager.
2) Besides Outlook - any other integration requirements?
3) Platforms/portability - would you be interested in Android/iPhone app?

I would also be interested in helping to fund this project as the integration with newer 64 bit apps would be great.

This would be something to help increase the value of the products we sell and keep us ahead of the curve.

Integration with sugarcrm or other similar systems would be nice as a platform for them to manage their contacts and have access to them to dial them right from the app would be huge.
