I just want to know if it's possible for us to upload a database of names and numbers into the directory and if that number calls into the thirdlane pbx that the person's name can automatically be tied to it.
I tried it myself and it didn't seem to work.
Is there a setting somewhere that I can enable or customize to do this?
It would be really nice to see "John Smith - 555-555-5555" rather than just "555-555-5555" calling in.

I get names for internal
I get names for internal users.
So for example, if my name is Bob and I call Jim at his extension from my extension, you'll see my name "Bob" come up and my extension number is displayed as well.
What I want to be able to do, is to assign a name to external number calling in.
So let's say there a customer... John, that usually calls for Bob.
We want Bob to be able to easily identify John calling in by tying his cell number to his name in the directory.
It will be a predetermined list of course.

i have an AGI script I helped develop that will look up numbers in a MySQL database and use that for names. I originally developed it to do callerid-lookup service from a per-lookup provider and cache the results for a couple weeks to reduce the number of lookups. It supports manual override of a number to permanently insert it into the database.
