We've been using the Snom PA1. You just configure it like a normal extension and plug it into the overhead speakers.

You can configure a feature code to call the tl-intercom script; however I've found that this isn't the best solution as you won't be able to talk if the person is on a call; and additionally it also seems to activate their microphone.

So in the instance that you want to page a group of extensions; all the noise from them could get tricky.

The Snom PA systems are far preferable.

The best way is to get a Cyberdata Paging Amp or a Snom and set it up via MULTICAST, not sip. If it is using sip there will be a slight delay, barely noticeable but very annoying. If you use multicast it never leaves your internal network.

those tend to be expensive solutions.. some sip/ethernet speakers are more than a voip handset...

in the scenario where someone already has overhead paging on a legacy system.. most likely they already have it connected to a Bogen paging amplifier. In this scenario your best solution is a SPA3102 FXO ata and Bogen TAMB2 adapter. You connect the FXO port of the 3102 to the TAMB and run the 600ohm output to the paging input of the paging amplifier. The paging amplifier also supports Night Ringer so you can wire the FXS port of the 3102 to that port so that a ringing sound can be played over the speakers. This works very well in warehouses/factoriers that want to be able to reach employees after hours and would not otherwise hear a phone over the typical noise in these environments. The cost of the 3102 and the TAMB2 will cost less than a single sip speaker and give you a lot more power than they cyberdata paging amp (simply because the number of speakers is limited in that unit whereas there are countless sizes of Bogen PA models to fit your needs).
