MariaDB instead of MySQL

Posted by summitgroup on Wed, 02/03/2016

Hi All,

Has anyone moved from MySQL to MariaDB?

We're slowly moving all of our production systems away from MySQL now that it's pretty much a dead product.

Alex - is this planned?? Is this supported??

i can find no official proof that mysql is actually end-of-life. It sounds kinda like Ted Cruz telling potential voters that his competitors had just recently withdrawn from the election.

I don't see a need to worry about it until it stops appearing in the OS distribution release. If and when TL starts migrating to CentOS 7, then expect to see some migration. Theres 2 major reasons not to worry about it

1) this isnt a service that is just left open for any IP to come trying to break or hack into it. Its primarily just hosting connections from the server itself. In the event of offsite access, I would strongly suggest IP specific allow rules in your firewall table regardless of what DB you were to use.

2) TL is by no means coming anywhere close to ever pushing the limits of its capabilities. We could practically rewind 12 years of mysql development and still probably have all the features and performance still in the code to support thirdlane.
