TL 8.0 - Asterisk Illegal instruction error

Posted by KevinH on Fri, 01/13/2017

I've been getting an issue on a Supermicro server where pbxportal reports "Illegal instruction error" when it starts. Asterisk never fully starts, it just crashes and produces a core dump.

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling through yum to no avail.

To work around the the issue I installed off of the TL 7.5 ISO but ended up having to update Asterisk after all, and am now finding myself in the same boat with Illegal instruction errors.

Has anyone experienced anything similar to this?

no, what makes you sure its limited to just supermicro? Have you had different results on other hardware? Is this a CLI error or a web page error? Most of my machines are supermicro in the field.

Most of the machines I deploy are Dell and I have not had this error on any of these box. At the same time I've deployed several supermicros that have not exhibited this behvior: I have only seen it happen on this one box (X7SPA-HF).

The error is kicked out to stdout, i'm seeing it from a bash prompt and in dmesg.

I was able to work around it by compiling asterisk + dahdi from source. Far from a clean fix but I have not encountered any side effects as of yet.
